BACKGROUND The percentage of musicians who are Asian studying at top-level music schools in the New York area has increased steadily over the past several years and the calibre of these students has become extremely high. Thanks to the availability of scholarships and various "Young Artist Programs," most students are able to gain access to a wonderful environment for their education. This environment in turn is a major factor in New York's ability to produce the next generation of young talented musicians. At the same time, New York can be a difficult place for young musicians to find performance opportunities once they have left their course of study to begin a career. While there are competition and audition programs available, these tend to benefit only a limited number of musicians. And yet, to succeed and sustain oneself as a performer, an artist must have opportunities to establish a performance history and reputation. For those from overseas, if they are unable to establish such a performance history, they are faced with strict visa limitations on their stays. Some have no choice but to give up their pursuit of performance activity in New York and return to their country of origin. Asian Artists & Concerts, Inc. (AAC) is a performing arts organization that supports young Asian nationals and Asian-American musicians while they pursue their professional goals. AAC serves as a bridge for young artists as they transition from a background of musical training to a professional career. AAC's mission is to help them gain that experience by providing performance opportunities. Becoming a successful musician involves more than honing a fine technique.
